Abigail Adams of Springdale has received an academic achievement scholarship to Pittsburg (Kan.) State University, a Pepsi-Cola academic achievement award and Pete Esch Business scholarship. Adams is the daughter of Elizabeth and Charles Adams and will be majoring in management and marketing.

University of Arkansas at Little Rock
Charlie Tran of Fort Smith earned the Dean's Academic Merit Scholarship from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. The schoarship awards a total of $24,000 for four years. The scholarship for entering freshmen requires a 26 or higher score on the ACT and a 3.0 high school grade-point average.
University of Evansville
Holyn Marshall of Bentonville graduated May 7 from the University of Evansville in Indinana, with a bachelor of science degree in business administration, management.
University of Arkansas-Fort Smith
Two University of Arkansas-Fort Smith nursing students were recognized during an end-of-semester awards ceremony for the university's College of Health Sciences.
Cameron Bruso of Van Buren was named valedictorian, and Taylor Brandli of Gravette was named salutatorian.
Bruso also received the Outstanding Clinician in Nursing award, determined by the faculty and presented to a student who has a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 higher and demonstrates clinical practice, leadership ability and professional characteristics.
Brandli received the Carolyn McKelvey Moore School of Nursing Spirit award, nominated by her peers as a role model in the program, involvement in school activities and organizations, leadership experiences and academic performance.
Lake Forest Academy
Kayrat Bektemirov of Fayetteville, a student at Lake Forest (Ill.) Academy earned a bronze medal in National Spanish Exam Competition. The annual exam is distributed by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese measures reading, listening and writing skills of students learning Spanish in secondary schools.
Saint Louis University
Christina Hacala of Bentonville received a bachelor of arts in anthropology and English from Saint Louis University during commencement ceremonies May 14. Hacala is a 2012 graduate of Bentonville High School.

Combs receives scholarship
Sydney Combs of Bentonville has been awarded a Patrick Calhoun Leadership Scholarship for 2016 to attend the Leadership Institute's Youth Leadership School in July in Arlington, Va. The scholarship's purpose is to prepare young Arkansans for leadership, advance conservative principles and build a vibrant two-party system. It was founded by Morton Blackwell, a former aide to President Ronald Reagan.
Combs is a student at the University of Arkansas, majoring in political science and law. She is vice chair of College Republicans and a member of Phi Mu Sorority. Combs graduated from Life Way Christian School in 2013, worked on the election campaigns for Attorney General Leslie Rutledge and State Representative Elect Austin McCollum and is the daughter of LaDonna and Chris Combs of Bentonville.
