Arkansas man dies of pneumonia stemming from crash injuries, police say

A Rogers man died 10 days after being injured a single-vehicle crash earlier this month and developing pneumonia as a result, according to Arkansas State Police.

In a preliminary report released Tuesday, state police said the accident occurred at 6:05 p.m. July 4 when Karl Weitzmann, 61, lost control of his 2004 Ford F-250 while traveling south on Interstate 49, causing his truck to strike a temporary concrete barrier.

Weitzmann later developed a lung infection and was pronounced dead July 14 by the Benton County coroner, according to authorities.

Travel conditions at the time of the crash were described in the report as clear and dry.

Weitzmann’s death was the 290th stemming from a crash on an Arkansas road this year, according to preliminary state police figures.
