Decision on UA vote center expected Aug. 19

The Washington County Election Commission will decide Aug. 19 whether to create a vote center at the University of Arkansas. The commission met Monday and heard from students advocating for the creation of a center.

Commissioners said they need time to consider the proposal.

The student-led proposal in Fayetteville would allow voters countywide to cast ballots on campus during the two-week period leading up to Election Day. Washington County began using voting centers allowing residents to vote at any polling location instead of by precinct last year.

Commissioners said several polling locations are already within walking distance of campus.

Students, faculty and staff told the commission that parking will be provided for poll workers and that the county will be reimbursed for the costs associated with the vote center.
