Hayden Seay has always had his mind on his money.
"My dad is a bond salesman," Seay said. "I've grown up around it. As a kid, instead of watching cartoons, I was watching CNBC."
Seay, who played first base and pitched for Baptist Prep, said he plans to major in accounting at Hendrix College starting this fall.
"I've always been savvy in business," Seay said. "I've always been interested in the handling of money and the business side of things. I think knowing that will open doors for you."
Seay said he always tries to be the best he can be in whatever he does.
"One of the things I'm most proud of is that I've always managed to keep myself motivated," Seay said. "It didn't matter if it was academically or athletically, I've always strived to be the best. That was always big for me. ... I'm proud that I was able to work hard at baseball. Our practices would finish around 7 every night. I'd run home, grab a bite to eat and study the rest of the night."
Seay said his favorite classes always involved math and that Hendrix was a natural choice for him.
"I enjoy solving problems and my math classes allowed me to use my ability to do so," Seay said. "Hendrix is the top school in the state, and I knew if I went there that I would be challenged. I feel like that's the place for me and that I can excel in a place where I will be challenged."
Seay, whose batting average hovered around the .300 mark this spring, played American Legion baseball with the Little Rock Vipers, advancing to the state tournament.
