Rogers teen arrested as suspect in armed robbery

BENTONVILLE -- A 17-year-old Rogers teen was arrested and charged Thursday in connection with an armed robbery.

Evan Conor Irwin is charged with accomplice to aggravated robbery and accomplice to theft of property, both felonies. Prosecutors charged Irwin as an adult.

A 16-year-old boy told Rogers police he was walking to work July 5 when two males in a red vehicle stopped and asked if he needed a ride, according to a probable cause affidavit. The teen said he would give them $5 if they gave him a ride to a bank and then to his job on 46th Street.

The teen said they went to the bank, but he couldn't withdraw money because he didn't have proper identification, according to the affidavit. They then drove to the Wal-Mart Supercenter on Walnut Street. One of the males gave the teen his telephone number so he could call when he was finished in the store.

The teen made purchases, received $200 and then called the telephone number.

The driver asked for $20 because they had to drive the teen to more than one place.

The teen said they arrived where he worked when he heard a gun being cocked and saw the passenger holding a gun in his lap, the affidavit states.

The passenger told the teen to give him money and the teen gave up $180 he still had.

The passenger then told the teen to delete his recent call history from his cellphone.

Police were able to obtain video of the vehicle. Police also were also able to retrieve the deleted number from the teen's phone.

Police was able to trace the number and identify Irwin as a suspect. The teen later identified Irwin as the driver.

Keith Foster, spokesman for the Rogers Police Department, said police haven't yet arrested the second suspect.
