NWA LETTERS

Beware of incremental gun control measures

I feel compelled to respond to the 10-point letter from Bella Vista resident Linda A. Farrell.

In point number four of her letter, she takes to task “Donnie” (Donald Trump, I’m sure) for how he pronounced Tanzania. Perhaps her proffered pronunciation too is incorrect. I once met a very learned man from Tanzania and as he pronounced the name of his home country I heard it as “Tahn-ZAN-nee-ah.

In point number one of her letter she states the following: “No one, I repeat, no one is coming to take away your gun.” To take guns away from all citizens is exactly the aim of the proponents of gun control. Their strategy is to accomplish this by incremental infringements all the while calling each step “common sense.” Today their rhetoric says that expanded background checks are needed and represent “common sense” measures. A careful examination of this measure reveals that it cannot work without universal registration. Universal registration will lead to universal confiscation.

In reference to gun control efforts, President Obama once stated, “This has not been a slippery slope to mass gun confiscation.” If the expanded background checks are foisted upon law abiding people, Obama’s statement will go down in history as another great lie like, “If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor and if you like your insurance, you can keep your insurance.”

Perhaps no one is coming today to take away our guns but gun-banners are plotting for the day they can take away everybody’s guns. Gun-banners Hillary Clinton and Chuck Schumer are two of the most spiteful and ruthless enemies of the right to keep and bear arms. They must not succeed. Hillary has stated that her enemy is the NRA. If elected as president, she will not stop until she has destroyed our Second Amendment-protected rights.

Trump’s platform all

about his personal gain

Donald Trump is running for president because he intends to use the office for personal gain. He betrays himself in the article, “Clinton and Trump: Their plans for Social Security,” in the July/August 2016 AARP Bulletin. He plans to expand the economy by favoring business (himself) to the extent it will have no accountability to the government or the people, just function as totally independent. We’ve heard all this before and it only helps the rich.

Donald’s promises seem insincere because common sense indicates he will not build a wall, Mexico will not pay for it and Muslims will not be banned from entering the U.S. He will not go against corporate America and renegotiate the trade agreements it helped devise.

He states that if we are all armed and dangerous it will prevent mass killings, which of course will only exacerbate it. Will a person with a handgun draw fire from an assault rifle? It seems the people who hide behind the Second Amendment must have the heaviest security, as evidenced by the Republican convention. They’ve become victims of their own stubbornness.

We also should keep in mind that Donald’s first wife raised those beautiful older children of his. I’m sure she deserves the credit for their refined style.

So far, Donald has oversimplified everything and show us how deft he is at flip-flopping.
