Despite lifesaving efforts, girl found in pool dies at hospital

A 4-year-old girl found unresponsive in an above-ground swimming pool earlier this week at a home in Greene County was pronounced dead at an out-of-state hospital Thursday, according to the sheriff's office.

Authorities said the child, identified as Jayden McGinnis, had been in 3-foot-deep water for five to 10 minutes Tuesday evening at a home in the 3200 block of Greene County Road 731 in Paragould before she was discovered by her mother.

The sheriff's office said it responded at the home shortly after receiving a call at 8:43 p.m.

A 38-year-old man working on a vehicle at the home at the time told authorities that a ladder to the pool was typically removed when not in use to prevent children from going into the water. His relation to the child was not immediately clear.

Family members and medical personnel attempted CPR on Jayden at the scene before she was taken to St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro, the report said.

Jayden was transported later to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis, where she was pronounced dead Thursday morning.
