Road closings expected in downtown Fayetteville for bridge restoration project

FAYETTEVILLE -- Sections of Lafayette and Maple streets and Gregg Avenue downtown will close as crews make a push during the city's bridge project.

West Lafayette Street from West Avenue to Gregg Avenue will be closed through July 28. West Maple Street from Wilson Avenue to Gregg Avenue and Gregg Avenue from Lafayette Street to Reagan Street will be closed through Aug. 19, according to a city news release.

Lighting, railing restoration and traffic striping may require additional road closings past Aug. 19.

The effort to restore the Lafayette and Maple streets overpass bridges began in March and will wrap by September.

The bridge closings apply to all traffic. The Frisco Trail section of the Razorback Greenway and the Frisco Railroad line will remain open. Sidewalks east of the Maple Street bridge will provide access to the trail.

The Maple Street bridge was constructed in 1936, and the Lafayette Street bridge was built two years later. Both were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1995.
