Mount Sequoyah center has new owner after 94 years

The Mount Sequoyah Retreat and Conference Center in Fayetteville has a new owner after 94 years.

The South Central Jurisdiction of the United Methodist Church voted last week to turn the assets and operation of the center over to Mount Sequoyah Center Inc.

The center is now an independent nonprofit. The facility provides lodging, meals and meeting spaces to church retreat groups and other religious and nonprofit organizations, and offers summer camps, swim programs and tennis lessons.

“The Northwest Arkansas area will now be served with vital new religious and educational programs for adults, families and children as well as having a beautiful site for church retreats, weddings, family events and more,” the Rev. Jess Schload, CEO of Mount Sequoyah, stated in a news release. “Our hope is that this special place overlooking the city will continue to be an important resource for the community. We will be seeking partnerships with churches, religious organizations and non-profits to continue to serve this region.”
