Authorities are searching for an inmate who escaped from a north Arkansas jail Wednesday evening, according to the Newton County sheriff’s office.

The inmate, 31-year-old Ryan Campbell, was able to climb over chain-link fencing with barbed wire between 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. while in the jail’s exercise yard, said Chief Deputy Jarred Morgan with the sheriff’s office.

Campbell was being held at the Newton County jail on a charge of first-degree battery stemming from an incident nearly two weeks ago, Morgan said. Another man, whose identity was not released, was also arrested in the case.

Jail records show Campbell was booked at 11:05 a.m. July 11.

The sheriff’s office said in a statement posted to Facebook that it is “unknown if he is armed but is considered dangerous.”

The Newton County jail is in Jasper, which is is about 20 miles south of Harrison.

Anyone with information regarding Campbell’s whereabouts is asked to call the Newton County sheriff’s office at (870) 446-5124.
