West Fork mayor resigns

West Fork Mayor Charles Rossetti confirmed in a phone message Wednesday that he has resigned. He did not say why.

"I will no longer be able to serve this community and my constituents as you deserve," he said in his resignation letter, dated Tuesday.

Kristie Drymon, the city's treasurer and finance director, said a new mayor will have to be appointed by the city council at a special meeting. The meeting has not yet been set, she said.

Typically, an alderman is chosen to replace a mayor who resigns, but the decision rests with the council, she said.

Municipal filing starts July 29 and ends at noon on August 19, according to Becky Lewallen, Washington County clerk.
