NWA Fishing Report

BEAVER LAKE

Night owls are reeling in some black bass with spinner baits and plastic worms.

James Whittle at Hook, Line and Sinker in Rogers said black bass are biting dark-colored spinner baits after dark in shallow water along chunkrock banks. Good colors are black, or black/red or black/ blue.

Dark colored plastic worms are working for bass at night 10 to 15 feet deep, also along chunk-rock banks.

Black bass are biting during the day south of Hickory Creek park on deep-diving crank baits. Fish along points, ledges and bluff ends.

Striped bass are hitting top-water lures, shad or brood minnows at dawn from Point 5 to the dam. Anglers are locating schools of shad with their depth finders and fishing around the shad schools.

Crappie fishing is slow. Crappie can be caught by fishing man-made brush piles 15 to 20 feet deep with minnows or jigs.

Jug lines are working best for catfish. Bait up with liver or small sunfish.

Mike Whitehouse at Hickory Creek Marina said trolling is producing a mixed bag of fish on the south end of the lake. Anglers trolling crank baits are catching walleye, catfish and some big crappie. Use crank baits that run 12 to 15 feet deep.

BEAVER TAILWATER

Tom Steinke at the Beaver Dam Store said trout are biting Power Bait. The best lures are countdown Rapalas and Colorado spoons.

Fly fishermen are catching trout with small flies, including hare’s ears and pheasant-tails. In areas with stained water, try a San Juan worm or woolly bugger.

LAKE FAYETTEVILLE

Angela Perea at the lake office said black bass are biting soft-plastic crawdads or plastic worms. Use jigs for crappie.

Catfish are biting stink bait or minnows. Bluegill are biting worms or crickets.

LAKE SEQUOYAH

Mike McBride at the lake bait shop said catfish are biting well on liver, shad or small sunfish. Black bass are biting spinner baits or top-water lures at dawn and dusk.

Bluegill are biting crickets, worms or any kind of sunfish bait. Use minnows eight feet deep for crappie.

SWEPCO LAKE

Kenny Stroud in Siloam Springs said black bass are biting plastic worms on a drop-shot or Carolina rig. Bass are also biting square-billed crank baits, top-water lures and swim baits.

SILOAM SPRINGS LAKE

Stroud recommends using crank baits, plastic worms or buzz baits for black bass.

ILLINOIS RIVER

Stroud recommends using plastic lizards or Beetle Spins for black bass.

BELLA VISTA

Justin McClelland at Hook, Line and Sinker in Bella Vista said black bass fishing is good on all Bella Vista lakes with plastic worms or jig and pigs.

Bluegill are biting 10 to 15 feet deep on worms or crickets. Catfish are biting fair on shrimp or nightcrawlers.

EASTERN OKLAHOMA

The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation reports good crappie fishing at Grand Lake on minnows or jigs around brush and docks.

White bass are biting minnows, spoons or crank baits in coves. Blue and channel catfish are biting shad and stinkbait around rocks and below the dam.

TABLE ROCK LAKE

The Missouri Department of Conservation reports fair fishing for black bass with crank baits around shad schools. Bluegill fishing is good with worms or Beetle Spins. Catfishing is good with cut bait, minnows or small sunfish.
