Scribner, 6-run 5th catapult Travelers

Troy Scribner struck out 7 batters in 7 innings and the Arkansas Travelers defeated the Springfield Cardinals 7-4 on Sunday night at Hammons Field in Springfield, Mo.

Scribner (7-3) allowed 4 runs on 6 hits and walked 2.

The Travs backed up Scribner with a six-run fifth inning that broke a 1-1 tie.

Andrew Daniel scored on a fielder's choice and Eric Aguilera came home on Caleb Adams' sacrifice fly to make it 3-1. Anthony Phillips' bases-loaded walk two batters later scored Jabari Henry for a 4-1 lead. Former Central Arkansas standout Forrestt Allday's two-run double extended the lead to 6-1. Phillips capped the Travs' six-run inning when he scored on a passed ball by Springfield catcher Jesse Jenner.

Springfield pulled within 7-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning on Peter DeJong's RBI double and Jonathan Rodriguez' two-run single. But Scribner got Jenner to ground into a double play to end the inning.

Chris O'Grady pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his first save with the Travs.

Aguilera and Daniel each had two hits to lead the Travs, who outhit the Cardinals 8-6.

Johnny Walter (0-2) allowed 6 runs on 7 hits in 4 2/3 innings for Springfield. He struck out three and walked four.
