A North Little Rock man was drunk when he ran his car into a powerline pole early Sunday morning, drove a half mile away and stepped out to walk around while his car rolled into an intersection, according to a police report.

Police arrived at the 4800 block of Hickory Avenue at 2:40 a.m. to find Ronald Jeffrey knocking on doors while his silver Chevrolet -- damaged and unoccupied -- rolled into a nearby intersection as "numerous bystanders" tried to stop the car and put it in park, according to the report.

Jeffrey -- who smelled of intoxicants, slurred his words and had trouble balancing, the report said -- told police another car had hit him, but he couldn't give any details; officers found the front bumper of his car near a damaged electric pole at 444 McCain Blvd., according to the report.

Jeffery, 62, was arrested on charges of driving on a suspended licence, driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit to a sobriety test and leaving the scene of an accident.
