LITTLE ROCK — Arkansas Lt. Gov. Tim Griffin says he's seeking re-election in two years, becoming the second statewide official to announce his candidacy in the 2018 election.

The Republican lieutenant governor said Monday that he's running for re-election to the post. Griffin, a former congressman who represented central Arkansas' 2nd Congressional District, was elected lieutenant governor in 2014.

Since taking office, Griffin has headed a task force that recommended Arkansas take a broader look at where to change and replace the Common Core education standards that have been criticized by some conservatives. He also reviewed the state Department of Human Services and called for the agency to overhaul its structure to better serve clients.

Land Commissioner John Thurston last month said he would seek the Republican nomination for secretary of state in 2018.
