Benton police arrest 3 in drive-by shootings

No one injured in attacks over 3 days

Three Benton residents have been arrested in a string of drive-by shootings in local neighborhoods over a three-day period, police said.

Travis Lee Skaggs, 27; Taylor Leigh Richie, 22; and Ronnie Moore, 25, a convicted felon, face charges of criminal attempt to commit murder, terroristic act, aggravated assault and criminal mischief, according to a news release from the Benton Police Department.

In the first attack, two people said they were sitting inside a parked vehicle in the 220 block of South Third Street on July 4 when another vehicle drove up and a man, believed to be Skaggs, "repeatedly" fired a gun from the back seat, police said.

The parked vehicle was struck "several times" but no one was injured, police said.

Officers responded Tuesday night to another report of shots fired at 605 W. Woodlawn St., which is nearly 2 miles southwest of South Third Street.

Two bullets traveled through the wall of an occupied home but no injuries were reported, police said.

The third drive-by shooting occurred Wednesday at 603 W. Woodlawn St., where the three are accused of firing several rounds through windows and walls of the occupied home. No injuries were reported.

All three suspects remained at the Saline County jail as of Thursday afternoon without bail, records show.
