NWA Fishing Report

BEAVER LAKE

Black bass are biting top-water lures at sunrise. Fish deeper at midday.

James Whittle at Hook, Line and Sinker in Rogers said top-water lures are working from first light until the sun hits the water. Anglers report catching black bass two to 15 feet deep on crank baits, plastic worms or jig and pigs after sunrise.

Sunrise is also the best time to catch striped bass from Point 5 to the dam. Surfacing stripers can be caught with top-water lures. Try large white jigs or shad 20 feet deep or shallower.

Crappie are biting in the War Eagle arm 10 to 15 feet deep. Use minnows or jigs.

Catfish are biting liver or nightcrawlers for rod and reel anglers. Small sunfish are the top bait for jug lines.

Mike Whitehouse at Hickory Creek Marina said walleye are biting in the Horseshoe Bend area. Use a nightcrawler rigged on a bottom bouncer. Crappie are being caught on spider rigs baited with minnows 10 to 20 feet deep.

BEAVER TAILWATER

Tom Steinke at the Beaver Dam Store said trout are biting a combination of Power Bait and waxworm. The top flies are midges or pheasant-tails in size 18-20.

Trout and walleye can be caught by trolling countdown Rapalas.

LAKE FAYETTEVILLE

Jeremy Downing at the lake office said catfish are biting liver or nightcrawlers. Bluegill are biting crickets. Minnows or plastic worms are working for black bass.

LAKE SEQUOYAH

Mike McBride at Lake Sequoyah bait shop said crappie are biting eight feet deep on minnows or jigs. Catfish are biting live or shad. Black bass are hitting spinner baits or buzz baits.

SWEPCO LAKE

Kenny Stroud in Siloam Springs said black bass are biting soft plastic lures two to 20 feet deep. Try top-water lures at first light or on cloudy days.

ILLINOIS RIVER

Stroud recommends using small tube baits or any small soft plastic lure for black bass. Try liver to catch catfish in the deep holes.

BELLA VISTA

Hook, Line and Sinker reports fair fishing for black bass at Lake Windsor and Loch Lomond.Use deep-diving crank baits or plastic worms. No report on other species.

EASTERN OKLAHOMA

The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation reports fair crappie fishing at Grand Lake with minnows 10 to 20 feet deep around docks and brush. Catfish are biting shad or stink bait.

TABLE ROCK LAKE

The Missouri Department of Conservation reports good bluegill fishing with worms and Beetle Spins around docks and rocky banks. Try jigging spoons, plastic lizards or crank baits 15 feet deep for black bass.
