Suspect in Little Rock's 1st '16 killing named

Little Rock police on Thursday named a suspect in a fatal shooting New Year's Day.

Police are seeking Robert Lee Cheeter Jr., 28, in the death of Terry Jones, 32.

Officers found Jones shot multiple times i̶n̶s̶i̶d̶e̶ ̶a̶ ̶c̶a̶r̶ ̶a̶t̶ ̶6̶1̶2̶ ̶E̶.̶ ̶2̶2̶n̶d̶ ̶S̶t̶.̶

in a car after responding to shots fired in the area of the 500 block of East 22nd Street*, just south of downtown, about 8 p.m. on Jan. 1. Jones was taken to an area hospital for treatment, but later died. His death was the first homicide of the year in Little Rock.

Cheeter, who is nicknamed "Flame," is wanted on a charge of first-degree murder. He is described as black, 5-feet-9 and 190 pounds with braided hair.

Police also are seeking the Little Rock man on a first-degree battery charge in a shooting June 20 at the Berkley Apartments at 1601 N. Shackleford Road. Cheeter is accused of shooting Mecca Johnson, 31, in the left arm. Johnson's injuries were not life-threatening.

Cheeter has a listed address at the apartment complex. He also has listed addresses at 601 E. 22nd St. and 523 E. 22nd St., police said.

Court records show no adult criminal history for Cheeter.

He remained at large late Thursday.
