Balanced attack gives West Memphis edge

WEST MEMPHIS -- West Memphis had only one player with 10 or more points, but the Blue Devils' balanced attack was enough to defeat Mountain Home 57-45.

Ten Blue Devils scored, led by Dylan Gazo's 11 points off the bench.

Mountain Home (5-14, 1-5) cut a third-quarter deficit of more than 10 points to 38-31 at the end of the quarter, but West Memphis responded by hitting 5 of 6 shots from the field in the final quarter.

"I thought we did a pretty good job in the fourth quarter," West Memphis Coach Larry Bray said. "We limited our turnovers. When you play Mountain Home, you know the number of offensive possessions are going to be smaller, and it leaves us with a smaller margin for error."

After turning it over six times in the third quarter, the Blue Devils played error-free in the final eight minutes.

The Bombers' Chase Ohler swished a three-pointer with 3:22 to play in the game to make it a 47-38, but the hosts got a spark on the ensuing trip down the floor when senior guard Ahmere Albert drained a three to up the lead to 12.

Mountain Home got a game-high 19 points from guard Howie Wehmeyer.
