3 killed in wrecks, state police report

Three people were killed on Arkansas roads Sunday, according to Arkansas State Police reports.

Two Taylor men died Sunday evening when another vehicle rear-ended them in Lafayette County, according to state police.

Cecil Nolte, 86, of Taylor was driving south on Arkansas 53 at 7:04 p.m. with Raymond Uhl, 69, as a passenger. A 2008 Ford Mustang ran into the back of Nolte's 1999 Honda Civic when Nolte slowed to turn onto Lafayette County Road 68, according to a police report.

Nolte and Uhl were pronounced dead at the scene, the report stated. No other injuries were reported.

The road was dry, and the weather was clear, the report said.

A Centerton man died Sunday afternoon when his car left the road, struck a culvert and overturned, according to a state police report.

James W. Emerson, 48, of Centerton was driving a 2015 Jeep west on Arkansas 16 in Washington County when the vehicle left the road, according to a police report.

Emerson's vehicle struck a road sign and concrete culvert before it "overturned several times before coming to rest in a wooded area," the reported stated.

Emerson died from injuries sustained in the wreck, the report said.

The accident also injured three others: Melissa Emerson, 48, of Centerton; Sheila R. Escobar, 46, of Centerton; and a child, according to the report. They were transported to Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville.

The road was dry, and the weather was clear, the report said.
