Arkansas State Police has suspended the registration of Benton County Sheriff Kelley Cradduck to teach required courses to those seeking a concealed handgun carry license.

A copy of the certified letter sent to Cradduck on Thursday was obtained by the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette under the state's Freedom of Information Act.

The suspension will last pending resolution of a felony criminal charge against the sheriff. Cradduck was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of tampering with a public record, a Class D felony. He was also arrested in connection with misdemeanor tampering, but that lesser charge has no bearing on whether he can teach the firearms classes.

Cradduck reported income of more than $12,500 from Significance, LLC, in 2014. The company provides required training to get a concealed handgun license, along with other self-defense training. Income reports for elected officials for 2015 are not due yet.

Cradduck has the right to request an administrative hearing for review of the suspension, according to the letter.
