Public invited to forum on NWA transportation Thursday

FAYETTEVILLE — Regional planners are inviting the public to comment on a long range regional transportation plan during a final public forum Thursday afternoon in Springdale.

The 2040 Metropolitan Transportation Plan will replace the 2035 NWA Regional Transportation Plan. The plan provides a long range, comprehensive look at transportation needs and implementation strategies for highways, transit, bicycle and pedestrian paths.

Regional planners adopted the 2035 Plan on April 7, 2011. The plan is updated every five years.

Planners say a number of the 2035 goals have already been met with regard to transportation design, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, intermodal facilities, transit, transportation alternatives and highway priorities.

The meeting will be from noon to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Northwest Arkansas Regional Planning Commission conference room, 1311 Clayton Street in Springdale. The public is encouraged to drop in to view displays and talk with staff.

The public may also offer comment on the draft 2040 plan during a 30-day public comment period running from Jan. 23 through Feb. 21. Comments can be written, via mail, or faxed to 479-751-7150, via the telephone 479-751-7125, or emailed to Celia Scott-Silkwood at [email protected].

The plan will be available for review at the regional planning offices or online at www.nwarpc.org.
