SECOND FRIDAY ART NIGHT

Gallery-hopping

Monthly exhibition tour a night of viewing, dining, mingling, trolley rides

A little music, a little food, some socializing and lots of art usually draw a crowd to downtown Little Rock on Second Friday Art Night. The popular event at several venues downtown spotlights Arkansas art and artists and provides free trolley service among venues.

On Jan. 8, the art night coincided with several opening receptions. "Printmakers Under 30: An Exhibition of Works by Emerging Artists" opened at Arkansas Capital Corporation Group with the artists in attendance.

The featured artist in the galleries at The Butler Center for Arkansas Studies was Tom Flynn, a metal artist who was recently commissioned to provide artwork for the outside of the Ron Robinson Theater. The work, titled Chiggers, is currently on display inside The Butler Center. Keyboardist Tommy Priakos provided entertainment.

The opening reception for the exhibition, featuring photographs and collages by Morgan Page, was held in the gallery inside the Cox Creative Center; new works by Kasten McClellan Searls were shown at Gallery 221.

The draw at the Historic Arkansas Museum, besides music by Phillip Rex Huddleston, was the debut of two small exhibitions, "The Maps of Arkansas" with historic maps given to the museum by the late Parker Westbrook, and "Niloak Pottery Figurines" from the former Niloak Pottery Co. in Benton.
