Arkansas has set its new record for daily Powerball ticket sales ahead of the drawing for tonight's record $1.5 billion jackpot.

Arkansas Scholarship Lottery Director Bishop Woosley said on Twitter that sales had reached about $5.9 million just before 9 p.m. as the deadline to buy tickets for Wednesday night's drawing passed.

That broke the previous daily ticket sales record of $4.4 million, which was set only Saturday when the jackpot was $900 million. No one matched all the numbers then and the top prize soared to $1.5 billion.

The winning numbers will be drawn at 9:59 p.m.
