Deputies attempted to stop Jerrod Rankin, 28, outside Altheimer in Jefferson County, but he sped away in a gray Toyota Camry, according to a news release from the Jefferson County sheriff's office.

Rankin had three passengers in the car, but two leaped from it during the chase, the release stated. Rankin's girlfriend, Aria Kirkland, exited the car during the initial pursuit, and John Henry, another passenger, jumped out when Rankin lost control of the car near Tucker, the release said.

The third passenger, Anthony Stewart, remained in the vehicle until the chase ended when Rankin crashed on Crooked Creek Road near Humphrey, the release said.

Deputies arrested Rankin and reported finding a loaded handgun, methamphetamine and marijuana in the car, the release said.

Rankin, who had two pre-existing felony warrants, will appear before a district judge on suspicion of fleeing, possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a firearm by certain persons and simultaneous possession of drugs and a firearm.

He was in custody at W.C. "Dub" Brassell Adult Detention Center on Monday evening.
