The shooting occurred Thursday morning in the vicinity of 870 W. 10th St. in Crossett as officers approached a man identified as David Massey Jr. to serve an arrest warrant, the state police said in a statement Friday.

Massey fled in a vehicle across the yard of the residence and accelerated toward an Ashley County sheriff's deputy, the statement said.

"The deputy fired his pistol at the vehicle before being struck by the car," the statement said. "The deputy was treated for minor cuts and abrasions then released from a local hospital."

The statement said that at least one other law enforcement officer fired at the vehicle, "which sped away, then struck a parked pickup. Massey traveled a short distance further, then surrendered to police."

Massey was taken to a Little Rock hospital for treatment of a wound, according to the statement. Once he is released from the hospital, he will be taken to the Ashley County jail.

The statement didn't identify the officers involved, their administrative status or the details of the warrant the officers were trying to serve.
