Springdale police arrested a substitute teacher who admitted to raping a 14-year-old girl while she was intoxicated, according to a police report.

John Ross, 35, of Siloam Springs was arrested at 2 p.m. Wednesday on a rape charge. He was released Thursday from the Washington County jail on a $15,000 bond, according to the Washington County sheriff's office website.

Police said they received a hotline report from the Arkansas State Police Crimes Against Children Division informing them of a rape that took place at an apartment complex on Napa Valley Lane in Springdale.

Ross confessed to performing multiple sexual acts on the girl, investigators with the Springdale Criminal Investigation Division said.

The report states that the girl was so intoxicated that she passed out while Ross performed the acts.

Ross later told investigators that he knew the girls was a minor at the time of rape, police said.

Ross has been a substitute teacher for Springdale School District, district spokesman Rick Schaeffer confirmed.

All substitutes must pass a background check, which Ross did, Schaeffer said.

As of Friday afternoon, Schaeffer did not know how long Ross had worked for the district or where he had been a substitute teacher.
