1 dead, 1 arrested in Shirley shooting

Arkansas State Police and the Van Buren County sheriff's office are investigating a fatal shooting Tuesday night, the agencies reported.

Sheriff Scott Bradley said in a news release that deputies were called about 8 p.m. to a residence in Shirley, where they found a man shot. The man was taken to Ozark Health Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

State police identified the man as Jonas Donahue, 28. Agency spokesman Bill Sadler said Donahue's body was taken the state Crime Lab for autopsy.

Court records show Donahue was last known to reside in Drasco, an unincorporated community in Cleburne County about 27 miles east of Shirley. According to his Facebook page, he worked for Compass Energy Services and was the father of a young girl.

The sheriff's office said a man was taken into custody at the scene of the shooting, and that charges were pending. They did not identify the man.

Further details of the slaying were not released.

The investigation is ongoing.
