Police recovered the body of a 72-year-old Sherwood woman from the Arkansas River on Tuesday, according to the Sherwood Police Department.

Charlette Wilkerson was last seen about 3 a.m. Monday by a family member at her home, said Sgt. Jason Hopkins.

Authorities focused their search Monday afternoon on the Arkansas River after Wilkerson's car was found on the Interstate 430 bridge. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, Pulaski County sheriff's office and several private residents launched boats into the river to search for Wilkerson. Monday's search concluded about 8 p.m.

Search crews returned to the water Tuesday morning. Wilkerson's body was found floating near the Big Dam Bridge after a bystander saw it and called 911, said Capt. Carl Minden, Pulaski County sheriff's office spokesman.

In a news release, Sherwood police said foul play was not suspected. Wilkerson had mental-health problems and took medication that impaired her mental ability, police said.

Minden said the sheriff's office is awaiting final autopsy results to determine the official cause of death.
