Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge on Wednesday afternoon approved language for a proposed ballot initiative that would allow restricted use of marijuana.

Wednesday's announcement came after several similar marijuana proposals were not approved.

The proposed constitutional amendment, the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment of 2016, would make the use of medical marijuana legal in Arkansas. It was submitted by Little Rock lawyer David Couch.

Supporters must secure nearly 85,000 signatures for the proposal to make the November ballot, according to the secretary of state's election handbook.
