McDonald powers Bombers

MOUNTAIN HOME -- Junior guard Mitchell McDonald scored a career-high 26 points and led Mountain Home to a 73-67 victory over Little Rock Central on Friday night in 7A/6A-East Conference play at The Hangar.

McDonald, who scored just 14 points in the Bombers' previous nine conference games, made eight three-pointers and seven those in the second half when he scored 23 points.

Then the Tigers (12-10, 4-6) responded with a 15-0 run, going up 47-36 on free throws by Jacobi Platt midway through the third quarter. McDonald then made 3 three-pointers to lead the Bombers (6-17, 2-8) on an 18-3 run to end the third and take a 54-50 lead into the fourth quarter.

A layup to start the final quarter by Howie Wehmeyer put the Bombers up 56-50. Central cut it back to 56-54 but then two more three-pointers by McDonald pushed Mountain Home's advantage to 68-60 with 2:25 left to play.

The Tigers made one last push and closed the gap to 68-65 on a steal and dunk by Cameron Johnson. McDonald answered with another three-pointer with 41.8 seconds left.

Wehmeyer finished with 25 points while Jackson had 13 for Mountain Home.

Platt led Central with 18 points and Raekwon Rogers added 14.
