Cabot converts miscues into rout

CABOT -- The Cabot girls forced 18 first-half turnovers, and Nicole Calhoon and Anna Sullivan combined for 28 first-half points as the Lady Panthers routed West Memphis 59-38 on Friday night.

West Memphis (15-8, 5-5 7A/6A-East) kept it close for a quarter despite 10 turnovers in the first eight minutes.

Sullivan, who scored all 12 of her points in the first half, sank a baseline shot with 49 seconds to play to give Cabot (16-10, 6-4) a 14-12 lead heading into the second quarter.

The turnover malaise for West Memphis didn't let up in the second quarter as the Lady Devils suffered miscues on their first three trips down the floor. It led to the Lady Panthers scoring the first 11 points of the quarter to take control of the game.

Cabot outscored West Memphis 19-7 in the second quarter to take a lead into halftime.

The Lady Panthers' lead swelled to 21 early in the third quarter after a Haley Sobczak drive for a basket.

Cabot shot an 81.2 percent from the free-throw line, sinking 26 of 32 attempts.

Calhoon led all scorers with 23 points, on the strength of 9-of-10 shooting from the foul line.

Leighton Taylor added 10 for Cabot.

West Memphis got 13 points from Sable Greer.
