Free throws carry Alma by Catholic

Alma was 6 of 6 from the free-throw line in the final minute allowing the Airedales to hold on for a 42-35 victory at Little Rock Catholic in a 7A/6A-Central Conference game Friday night.

Junior guard Nathan Corder, who led Alma (11-10, 4-6) with 18 points, hit two free throws with 40.8 seconds left after the Rockets (4-17, 3-7) had pulled within 36-33 with 53 seconds to play.

Catholic trailed 28-16 at the half, but scored the first nine points of the third quarter to cut Alma's lead to 28-25, but the Rockets missed their next nine shots from the floor to allow Alma to rebuild its lead back to nine.

The Rockets had one more surge in them and again drew as close as 36-33 after Jack Storey's steal and layup with 53 seconds to play, but the Airedales put the game away from the free-throw line. Corder was 4 of 4 in the closing seconds while Noah Dotson hit both of his attempts.

Brian Beckwith led the Rockets with 12 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocked shots. Austin Alsbrook added seven.
