Eddie Sutton is one of 14 finalists for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, the hall announced Friday.

It is the fifth time the former Arkansas coach has been a finalist.

Sutton, 79, coached at Arkansas from 1974-85 and led the Razorbacks to the 1978 Final Four.

The Razorbacks won 260 games and five Southwest Conference championships in 11 seasons under Sutton.

He came to Arkansas from Creighton and later coached at Kentucky, Oklahoma State and San Francisco, leading all but San Francisco to the NCAA Tournament.

The Cowboys reached the 1995 and 2004 Final Four with Sutton.

With 806 career wins, Sutton is the only Division I men's basketball coach with at least 800 wins who isn't in the hall of fame.

He is one of 14 coaches to reach the Final Four with multiple schools and one of eight to take at least four different schools to the NCAA Tournament.

Other finalists include former Maryland coach Lefty Driesell, Michigan State coach Tom Izzo, former Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan, former NBA All-Stars Allen Iverson and Shaquille O'Neal, and former WNBA All-Star Sheryl Swoops.

The Class of 2016 will be announced April 4 prior to the NCAA men's basketball national championship game.

If inducted, Sutton would be the second former Arkansas coach in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, joining Nolan Richardson, who was inducted in 2014.

Sutton has been inducted in the College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2011.

Arkansas is scheduled to honor Sutton next Saturday during the Razorbacks' game against Missouri by raising a banner with his name into the rafters of Bud Walton Arena.
