Former Centerton police officer pleads guilty to misdemeanor drug charge

BENTONVILLE -- A former Centerton police detective pleaded guilty Thursday to possessing steroids.

Colby Jason Miser pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance, a Class A misdemeanor. The plea came under an agreement attorney Alison Lee reached with Bryan Sexton, deputy prosecutor.

Miser was given a one-year suspended sentence. He also must perform 40 hours of community service over six months. and pay $1,420 in court costs.

Miser, 36, of Rogers was arrested Nov. 2. He was accused of possessing less than two grams of Stanozolol.

Stanozolol, also known as Winstrol or Winstrol-V, is a schedule III banned substance, according to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency. The drug, which can be injected or taken in pill form, is a testosterone derivative that was withdrawn from the United States market in 2010, according to the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency.

Centerton Police Chief Cody Harper went on Sept. 18 to pick up Miser's patrol vehicle at Northwest Medical Center-Bentonville, according to a police report. Miser was taken to the hospital after having a seizure while working out at a gym, according to the report.

Harper found a prescription medication bottle with the label removed in Miser's vehicle, according to the report. Harper began an investigation and the contents of the bottle were sent to the state Crime Laboratory to be identified.

Miser was fired after the findings from the Crime Lab were revealed.

Circuit Judge Brad Karren accepted the plea agreement and Miser's guilty plea.
