Arkansas escapee nabbed in Texas

A Saline County jail inmate who escaped from a work detail last week has been captured north of Houston, Texas, according to the sheriff's office.

Jeffrey Mays, 29, of Mabelvale was arrested Wednesday afternoon in Montgomery County, Texas, after authorities were tipped off about 1:45 p.m. to a location he was suspected of frequenting, the agency said in a news release. The Saline County sheriff's office was notified at 4 p.m. of his arrest.

Before Wednesday, Mays was last seen about 12:15 p.m. Feb. 3 while working with inmates from the Saline County jail. He was being held at the jail on two failure-to-appear charges.

As of Wednesday evening, Mays was being held at the Conroe, Texas, jail and was awaiting extradition from Texas to Arkansas.

Kristy Mays, 51, whose relation to Jeffrey Mays was not immediately clear, was arrested on a charge of hindering apprehension after Saline County sheriff's deputies met with her Wednesday in Mabelvale as part of the investigation, according to the news release.

She was booked at the Saline County jail at 3:37 p.m. Wednesday, according to jail records.
