FAYETTEVILLE -- A man died after falling about 20 feet from a tree that was leaning over a creek in Fayetteville, police spokesman Sgt. Craig Stout said Wednesday.

The man's head struck a rock when he fell, Stout said. The death appears accidental, he said.

A woman called police at 12:29 p.m. Wednesday and said she could see the body in the creek from the Razorback Greenway. The trail where the man was found is just north of the Northwest Arkansas Mall, near North College Avenue.

Police did not release the man's name Wednesday pending notification of relatives. Stout said he was not sure when the man died.

The man, in his 30s, had hung his shoes on the tree, Stout said. It appeared he was "taking a break" when he fell, he said.

The investigation is ongoing, Stout said.
