Ethics complaint questions fax use

The Arkansas Ethics Commission will investigate an election complaint filed against District Judge Susan Weaver of Faulkner County.

A photo of a Feb. 1 letter sent to Gary Kevin Hoover of Greenbrier from the commission was emailed to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette on Tuesday. The complaint alleges that Weaver filed a campaign report from a Greenbrier Public Schools fax machine to the secretary of state's office during school hours.

"I'm unaware of any wrongdoing or of anything being sent" from that fax machine, Weaver said Tuesday. "This is an attempt at dirty politics by my opponent."

Clinton lawyer Kent Tester is challenging Weaver's re-election bid for 9th District Court, Position 2.

Hoover does not have a phone listing in Greenbrier directory assistance. Weaver said Hoover is one of Tester's former clients.

No one answered the phone late Tuesday at Tester's law office. He did not immediately return a phone message left at a residential listing for him.
