Defense does it for Central girls

The last time the Little Central Lady Tigers played Jonesboro, they needed a late comeback to steal a two-point victory.

It didn't come to that on Tuesday.

Little Rock Central held Jonesboro to nine second-half points and cruised to a 40-24 victory.

Kiara Williams scored nine points to lead a balanced Central attack, but it was the combination of strong defense and Jonesboro's inability to finish that led to a Lady Tigers victory. The Lady Hurricane became the 10th opponent to fail to reach 30 points against Central (20-1 overall, 8-1 in 7A/6A-East play).

"We've been playing defense all year," Central Coach Michael Green said. "That's our staple. We struggled a little bit on the offensive end, but defense, we hang our hat on it."

Jonesboro trailed 20-15 at halftime but scored only four field goals the rest of the game. Starr Taylor led the Lady Hurricane (13-11, 3-6) with 9 points. Bre'Amber Scott and Sydni Williams had seven each for Central.
