I-49 to shut lanes to erase markings

Construction on Interstate 49 in Johnson and Springdale will require overnight lane closures for three days next week, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said.

Removal of old pavement markings on bridges at Johnson Mill Boulevard in Johnson and on U.S. 412 in Springdale will require the northbound and southbound lanes to alternately be reduced to one lane for 4 miles beginning Wednesday and ending the morning of Feb. 13.

The northbound lane closures will last from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. while the southbound lane closures will last from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., all weather permitting, the department said.

The work is part of a $28.3 million project to widen 4.5 miles of I-49 to six lanes from U.S. 71B in Johnson to U.S. 412 in Springdale. The project is expected to be completed later this year.
