Swimming: Bentonville sweeps Har-Ber Invitational

SPRINGDALE -- Bentonville was a double winner at the Springdale Har-Ber Invitational swim meet Thursday at the Jones Center.

The Tigers piled up 662 points to easily win the boys division, while the Lady Tigers won the girls division with 496 points. Fayetteville was second in both divisions as the Bulldogs finished with 407.5 points, while the Lady Bulldogs had 410 points.

The Tigers and Lady Tigers combined to win 15 of the 22 events. The Tigers have qualified 12 for the state meet while the Lady Tigers have now qualified 11.

"Good night for Bentonville High School, both boys and girls," said Bentonville coach Nick Nersesian. "We did accomplish some things and we have several others that are close to getting in (to state). We are on our game plan and hopefully at conference we will be able to achieve our mission and get all these kids into state."

Taylor Pike was a double individual winner for the Bentonville girls, while Jared Crosby, Hayden Harlow and Gavin Vann were double individual winners for the Tigers.

Pike won the 200 free and the 100 fly. Pike edge teammate Madeline Marks in the 200 free with a time of 1 minute, 57.79 seconds. Marks finished in 1:59.94. Pike won the 100 fly in 57:47, almost 10 seconds faster than second-place finisher Rosie Wade of Clarksville.

Pike also joined teammates Lauren Hacala, Paige Taylor and Gabby Collins in winning the 200 medley relay in 1:56.90.

Bentonville took the top four spots in the boys 200 IM with Harlow finishing first in 1:57.85. Zane Sutton was in second 10 seconds behind Harlow with a 2:07.93. Cole Reitnauer was in third (2:15.36) while Ryan Redell finished in fourth (2:17.55). Harlow also won the 100 breaststroke on 59:50.

Crosby (1:48) won the boys 200 free with a 1:48.28 while Mooney (1:52.22) and Pinales (1:57.57) took second and third, respectively. Crosby then won the 100 fly in 55:90. Sutton won the 500 free in 5:06.90.

Harlow joined teammates Jared Crosby, Lucas Ros and Gavin Vann to win the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:40.73. The Tigers team of Hayden Dixon, Noah Pinales, Austin Waters and Simon Mooney took second in the event with a 1:48.13. Vann also won the 50 free in 22:38 and the 100 back in 54.84.

Sutton, Crosby, Harlow and Vann also combined to win the 200 free relay. The Lady Tigers' Madeline Marks won the 500 free in 5:23.63

Rogers High had just 11 swimmers entered as several Mounties and Lady Mounties rested in preparation for the state indoor track meet this weekend. But Kristen Stadler set a school record in the 200 IM with a time of 2:21.93, which was a state qualifying time.

"She hadn't swam anything of that distance this year, and she broke the school record by three seconds," said Rogers coach Rob Bray. "She was a little apprehensive but she came out and swam exceptionally well. Very proud of her for that."

Fayetteville's Olivia Keith won the 50 free in 25.60 while Rogers Heritage senior Carly Holland won the 100 free in 57.82.

Springdale Har-Ber's Heath Brames had a solid effort in the 100 free with a winning time of 51.14.
