BENTONVILLE -- A 30-year-old man was taken to a hospital after he was shot in his Bentonville home on Thursday.

Police were dispatched to 2500 S.E. Fourth St. for a burglary at 9:44 a.m., according to a police news release.

The man told police he had found a man wearing a blue ski mask and dark jacket in his house when he got home, according to the release. The man told police he retrieved a firearm and struggled with the intruder when his gun went off, injuring him. The man told police the burglar fled on foot. The injured man was taken to a hospital.

Police clustered in the driveway of the home Thursday morning, photographing the exterior from behind crime scene tape before moving inside. Officers searched neighborhoods in the area but didn't located a suspect, said Gene Page, police spokesman.

The neighborhood is typically quiet, Page said.

Some officers already had left the Fourth Street scene when police were called to what was initially reported as a stabbing at Moberly Place apartments at 10:56 a.m. A man was injured there, but not stabbed, Page said.

The man hit a light fixture, injuring himself, and the person calling 911 said the glass fell and "stabbed" him, Page said. The man was taken to a hospital and no investigation was needed, he said.
