Coloradan pleads guilty in bank heist

He robbed Bentonville bank last summer, was apprehended in California

FAYETTEVILLE -- A Colorado man pleaded guilty Thursday to robbing a Bentonville bank in August.

Kenneth Wayne Fisher Jr., 39, of Colorado Springs entered a guilty plea to one count of bank robbery before U.S. District Judge Tim Brooks.

According to court documents unsealed Thursday, Fisher went into the First Security Bank at 2501 E. Central Ave. on Aug. 28 and handed a note to the teller, saying, "I'd like to cash this." On the note, Fisher had written "Give me the money. This is not a joke. I am very serious."

The teller gave him $961, according to court documents.

Fisher was wearing a red hat, a dark-colored shirt and glasses when he left the bank, police said. A police dog later found a hat and shirt at a nearby apartment complex.

Police compared photographs of Fisher and bank surveillance footage to make a positive identification.

Fisher was passing through Northwest Arkansas with a girl when the robbery occurred, police said.

Officers with the Fountain Valley, Calif., Police Department said they arrested Fisher on Nov. 16 after a 10-mile pursuit. He was traveling with a girl who had been reported as an endangered youth from Colorado, according to police.

Fisher was taken to the Orange County jail in Santa Ana, Calif., where he was held until he was returned to Benton County in Arkansas.

Fisher will be sentenced at a later date. Bank robbery is punishable by up to 20 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Restitution may also be required.

Fisher was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service while awaiting sentencing. He is being held at the Benton County jail.
