Rogers High School and Heritage High School will get new coaches, pending approval by the Rogers School Board.

Pea Ridge football coach Tony Travis will be the new coach at Rogers Heritage ahead of a special Rogers School Board meeting scheduled for tonight, said sources he told about the decision.

Mike Loyd, the coach at Grove, Okla., confirmed Thursday afternoon that he informed the Grove football players of his move to Rogers.

“I did tell them I was taking the job, pending board approval tonight,” Loyd said. “Number one, it’s a great school district. It’s a good place to live and they have great facilities. I have heard good things about the people there, administrators on down. It’s great football and you can’t find a better place to live.

“Hopefully, the board will approve it and we will get started.”

The Rogers School Board has a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. to consider the superintendent search.

Travis has spent the last seven seasons at Pea Ridge, where he was 39-38 overall. Travis won a conference championship with the Blackhawks in 2014 and led the team to the state semifinals last season.

Loyd has spent two seasons at Grove, where he posted records of 3-7 and 5-4. He was previously head coach at Ponte Vedra, Fla., for six seasons.

Former Rogers coach Shawn Flannigan and former Heritage coach Perry Escalante resigned following last season when the schools combined for one win — Rogers over Heritage.
