Lady Goblins get lead, stay in lead

HARRISON -- The Harrison Lady Goblins' 5A-West turnaround continued Tuesday night with a 53-40 victory over Greenbrier at LT's Court.

The Lady Goblins (12-8, 4-3) have won four in a row after an 0-3 start and are tied for third place in the 5A-West with Farmington, which visits Harrison next Tuesday.

Harrison cracked 50 points at home for the first time since a 55-45 victory over Covington, Tenn., back on Dec. 29.

Harrison never trailed Tuesday, going up 5-0 on a three-pointer by Briley Due and the Lady Goblins took advantage of 11 first-quarter turnovers by the Lady Panthers to take a 16-5 lead.

Greenbrier (8-12, 3-4) outscored Harrison 9-5 over the first three minutes of the second quarter, cutting the gap to 21-14. The Lady Goblins regained a 25-14 lead after four points by Emily Harp before the Lady Panthers connected on 3 of 4 free throws in the final 1:20 to make it 25-17 at the half.

Greenbrier opened the second half with a basket by Gracie Rice to cut the lead to 25-19, and Harrison did not score for nearly two minutes .

But Harrison got a layup by Morgan Clemence, a three-pointer by McKenzie Glenn and a layup by Harp for a 32-19 lead midway through the quarter. Then it was the Lady Panthers' turn for a run, outscoring the Lady Goblins 7-2 to cut the lead to 34-26 on a three-pointer by Kory Westerman. Harrison outscored Greenbrier 7-0 to end the quarter, all by Due, and the Goblins led 41-26.

Greenbrier scored the first seven points of the fourth quarter to get within 41-33 with 6:35 left. Harrison reopened up a 47-33 lead before Greenbrier cut it to 47-38 on a three-pointer by Westernman with 3:06 left.

The Lady Goblins ran time off the clock and put the game away by making 6 of 9 free throws over the final 1:59. A layup at the buzzer was the only points over the last 3:06 for Greenbrier.

Clemence and Due each finished with 16 points to lead Harrison while Westerman led Greenbrier with 18 points and Ali Skudlark added 13.
