SEASON'S GREETINGS

Guests book it to party thrown by library chief

When Little Rock's head librarian and his wife gave a holiday celebration in their beautiful Tudor-style Hillcrest home, few cared about the polar vortex.

Temperatures had begun to drop fast -- as had been well forecast -- at the start of the Dec. 17 event, hosted by Nathalie and Central Arkansas Library System director Nate Coulter, along with co-hosts Susan and Tom DeBlack. The front porch of the home was transformed into a serve-one's-self beer garden. Wines, along with heavy appetizers by Catering to You, were served inside. The majority of the guests mingled in the living room, where Christmas decor included a massive live Christmas tree bearing a wealth of keepsake ornaments and a row of labeled stockings all hung o'er the fireplace with care.

The popular party drew a large-enough crowd that an open front door served as a refresher, not a chiller. There was no agenda, no speeches. It was just a prime opportunity for a chat among neighbors (quite a few guests lived nearby), friends and associates.
