Wrecks on state roads kill 4, hurt 6

Four people died in separate accidents in Arkansas over the weekend.

A two-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer left a man dead Sunday night in northeast Arkansas, according to authorities.

The accident happened around 6:45 p.m. in the 3200 block of Dan Avenue in Jonesboro when a 2012 Chrysler Town & Country driven by Stephen Carnathan, 43, of Jonesboro crossed the road's centerline at Legion Drive, a Jonesboro Police Department report states.

After crossing into oncoming traffic, the Arkansas State Police said, Carnathan's van hit the dual wheels of a 2008 Kenworth tractor-trailer, resulting in fatal injuries to Carnathan.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not named in the report.

Travel conditions at the time of the crash were described as clear and dry.

A Fayetteville woman was killed after stopping her vehicle in a lane of traffic Saturday morning in Northwest Arkansas, according to state police.

The accident happened at 9:23 a.m. Saturday when Leigh E. Taylor, 57, came to a stop on Arkansas 45 east of Fayetteville.

Police said the driver of a second vehicle lost control at a curve and struck the passenger side of Taylor's vehicle, fatally injuring the woman, a preliminary report states.

The driver of the second vehicle, 18-year-old Colton Stilwell of Lincoln, and a passenger, 18-year-old Kagen Stephens of Elkins, were both injured, state police said. They were taken to Washington Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Travel conditions at the time of the wreck were described in the report as clear and dry.

An Arkansas woman was killed and four others were injured in a multiple-vehicle collision on U.S. 70 on Saturday, authorities said.

Wanda Spickard, 61, of Pearcy was driving a 2005 GMC Sierra west around 4:40 p.m. outside Hot Springs in Garland County, according to an Arkansas State Police report.

A 2006 Dodge Ram traveling east crossed into the westbound lane and struck the Sierra, sending Spickard's truck into two other vehicles, officials said.

Spickard suffered fatal injuries, police said.

The report said four others were injured: a 17-year-old from Hot Springs who was listed as the driver of the Dodge, 41-year-old Nikki Aitken of Hot Springs, 60-year-old Debora Jo Hadley-Glover of Hot Springs and 51-year-old William Gregory of Bonnerdale. At least one of the injured was taken to CHI St. Vincent hospital in Hot Springs.

Conditions were reported as cloudy and dry at the time of the wreck.

A Blytheville man died after his tractor-trailer rear-ended another 18-wheeler on Interstate 55 in eastern Arkansas, state police said.

According to Arkansas State Police, Tederian Blair, 36, was heading south on I-55 in his 2001 Freightliner around 6:50 a.m. Monday* when he drove into the back of a 1996 Freightliner.

The crash occurred west of Joiner. The other driver was uninjured.

Police listed conditions as clear and dry at the time of the wreck.
