UCA women duo scores 52 vs. Houston

Kierra Jordan finished with 28 points on 14-of-18 shooting as the Central Arkansas women's basketball team defeated Houston 69-55 on Tuesday in the Rae & Craig Blair Memorial Tournament at the Convocation Center in San Antonio.

Jordan also had 7 rebounds, 2 blocks and 1 steal for UCA (8-2).

Maggie Proffitt scored 24 points and made 3 three-pointers. She and Jordan scored 52 of UCA's 69 points Tuesday.

UCA led 28-21 at halftime. The Sugar Bears went on an 8-0 run to start the second half to extend their lead to 36-21 with 7:39 left in the third quarter. They stretched their lead to 17 points, 49-32, with 1:10 left in the third quarter on Taylor Baudoin's layup.

Houston (6-6) cut the lead to 53-47 on two free throws by Serithia Hawkins, but UCA extended its lead back to double digits, 58-47, on Jordan's layup with 6:19 left.

The Sugar Bears shot 55.4 percent (31 of 56) from the floor and held Houston to 35.2 percent shooting (19 of 54). Also, UCA forced 15 turnovers.

Chyanne Butler led the Cougars with 18 points. Hawkins had 16 points.

SUN BELT WOMEN

NORTHERN KENTUCKY 83, ARKANSAS STATE 78

Jada Ford scored a career-high 30 points, but Arkansas State (2-9) lost to Northern Kentucky (3-8) in the Puerto Rico Classic at South Point Arena in Las Vegas.

ASU trailed 66-54 with 9:32 left but cut the lead to 81-78 with 16 seconds left after a three-pointer by Ford. The Red Wolves got the ball back after a tie up on the inbound pass resulted in a jump ball, but Ford's quick layup rimmed out and the Norse grabbed the rebound and were quickly fouled with three seconds to go.

Ford scored 26 of 30 points in the second half.

Lauren Bradshaw finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Tahlon Hopkins had 11 points.

Kasey Uetrecht led Northern Kentucky with 23 points and nine rebounds. Mikayla Terry scored 16 points and Kelly Wiegman had 12 points. Rebecca Lyttle added 10 points.
