ASU adds four midyear signees

Twelve seniors will start their final games for Arkansas State in Saturday's Cure Bowl against Central Florida. Some of their potential replacements officially became Red Wolves on Wednesday.

Four junior-college transfers signed letters of intent with ASU on Wednesday, and all of them will enroll next month and be eligible for spring practice. They each play positions that are currently occupied by seniors.

Defensive lineman Tony Adams Jr. from Jones County (Miss.) Junior College, offensive lineman Chase Johnson from Northwest (Okla.) Junior College, defensive back Jefferie Gibson from Arizona Western College and linebacker Ronheem Bingham from Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College were announced by ASU on Wednesday.

Adams is likely a defensive tackle, a spot in which ASU is losing starters Waylon Roberson and Jake Swalley. Johnson will likely compete for a starting spot on an offensive line that is losing all five starters. Gibson started his career at Clemson as a safety, a position in which ASU is losing two starters. Bingham could potentially compete for the weakside linebacker spot vacated by Xavier Woodson-Luster.

Last year's mid-year signees group included linebacker Kyle Wilson, who started eight games and was named to the all-Sun Belt newcomer team.
