Samir El-Ghazaly, distinguished professor of electrical engineering at the University of Arkansas, was selected vice president of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and chairman of its publications services and products board. His term begins Jan. 1, 2017. El-Ghazaly has been a faculty member in the Department of Electrical Engineering since 2007. He trained and worked at several universities and research centers, including the University of Texas at Austin, where he received his doctorate; Arizona State University; Cairo University in Egypt; the Université de Lille in France; NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab and the Swiss Federal Research Institute. He authored or coauthored five book chapters and nearly 200 publications.

John Lamparski was hired by the Fayetteville Convention and Visitor’s Bureau as sports sales manager. Lamparski worked for eight years for Visit Bentonville, most recently as manager of group tour sales. He is a founding member of the Arkansas Group Sales Team, which promotes the state regionally and nationally. Lamparski worked in group sales at the Columbus Zoo in Powell, Ohio, and at the Jamestown Settlement Yorktown Victory Center in Williamsburg, Va. He earned a bachelor’s degree in creative writing from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Fla., and certification as a travel industry specialist from Indiana University.
